Lenten Worship Series Asks “What R U Up 2?”

The start of Lent is based on the date of Easter, and Easter’s date is based on the lunar calendar (the first Sunday after the first full moon after the northern hemisphere’s spring equinox). This year, Easter will be on March 31. Lent starts 40 days earlier (not counting Sundays), which is February 14 this year.

The first day of Lent is called Ash Wednesday. It is our tradition to hold a special worship service on Ash Wednesday, often with neighboring churches. United Church of Christ Fremont will host this year’s service, which you can read more about here.

We have a new worship series planned for Lent. Called “What R U Up 2?” this series invites us to an unusual practice for Lent. Many Christians give up something for Lent. Rather than giving something up, we’ll get up to something. We will consider what Jesus is up to in the scriptures this season – and, instead of bemoaning what we can’t do, or used to do, in a culture where “measuring up” to external standards seems impossible, we will celebrate the small things we can do right now to respond to God’s call in our place and time.

Come join us each week, online or on site, as we reflect on what we can be up to this Lent for the sake of Jesus.
