You’re Invited to Christmas in Niles

Special worship services and events mark Advent

Advent is a season rich with anticipation and joy. Niles Discovery Church will be celebrating all season long, beginning December 1. The theme for the season this year is “Following Your Guiding Star,” inspired by the journey of the Magi. You will see this theme in the new liturgical art and you will hear about it in the Advent sermon series and in the music of the Christmas cantata, “Sing with the Angels,” which the choir will present on Sunday, December 15.

In addition to our Sunday worship services, we will be marking the season with some special events. During coffee hour on December 1, people of all ages are invited to decorate cookies and to start a season-long poster-coloring project. (The poster coloring continues during coffee hour through Advent and there will be take-home coloring projects, too).

During the season, our children’s Sunday School classes will look into new curricula prepared by our own Ingert Svaert especially for the season of Advent. And the Adult Sunday School will explore a book about Advent.

A special event that happens each Advent at Niles Discovery Church is our “Longest Night Service.” It is held on December 21 (the longest night of the year) at 7:30. Read more about this special service of healing and hope here.

The season of Advent will close on Christmas Eve with two worship services. At 7:30 p.m., we will have an “Instant Pageant,” and at 11:00 p.m., we will have a traditional candlelight service. Read more about these services on here.

As you can see, this Advent will be rich and filled with learning, joy, and music. Come celebrate with us and invite your neighbors to join you.
