The Confirmation Class invites the whole church to watch the 1973 film Jesus Christ, Superstar on Saturday, February 20, at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
Based on a concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and the subsequent long-running Broadway performance, this film tells the story of the final 6 days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. Too often mislabeled a musical, this film is a rock opera. There are no spoken lines; everything is sung.
“One of the most common forms of Medieval theater in western Europe was the Passion Play,” Pastor Jeff recently explained. “I don’t know if Rice and Webber knew they were doing a rock version of a passion play when they created Jesus Christ, Superstar, but that’s what it is.”
The Confirmation Class is watching this movie as part of their study of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus as told in the Gospels.
