Ash Wednesday Service marks beginning of Lent

A special worship service will be held on Ash Wednesday, February 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Niles Discovery Church, 36600 Niles Blvd., Fremont. The service will be jointly led by the pastor of Niles Discovery Church, Filipino-America United Church of Christ, Filipino-America Evangelical United Church of Christ, Fremont Congregational Church, and Little Brown Church of Sunol.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the season of reflection, prayer, learning, and service that leads to Easter. Since Easter is the holiest day of the church year, this time of preparation is spiritually significant.

The worship service will include personal reflection on four scripture readings selected to connect with different spiritual orientations. The service will conclude with an invitation for those who wish to receive ashes (an ancient reminder of our mortality) and/or anointing and prayer. The service will be followed by a social time in the Fellowship Hall.
