Plans for January and beyond announced

Pastor Jeff shared our facilities plans for after December 31 at a Town Hall Meeting on November 9.

Because our leaseback agreement with Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association ends on December 31 and our new facility isn’t ready for occupancy yet, the Cabinet has made plans for worship, choir rehearsals, and office space for our time between buildings.

“We can look at this as a spiritual experiment,” Pastor Jeff said. “We have a couple months to experiment with what is really essential for us to be a worshiping community.”

Macau Cultural Center

Sunday morning worship services will be held at the Macau Cultural Center, 109 J Street. Parking is across Niles Blvd. The entrance is on J Street. There is an elevator and stairs to the second floor (where worship services will be) and the third floor (where the children’s Sunday School will meet). The Adult Sunday School class will do some experimenting of their own to figure out where or even if they will meet during this time between facilities.

We will need to set up and clean up the chairs and the keyboard each week. People are encouraged to come early to help with set-up.

As of the press deadline, we were still waiting for confirmation that the choir will be able to rehearse at Fremont Congregational Church. Pastor Jeff remains confident that this will work out.

Figuring out office space has proved to be more challenging. Not wanting to spend a ton of money on space that will only be needed temporarily, the Cabinet has settled on renting an office trailer that will be parked next to the similar construction office trailer. This space will be used by Cecilia and Randy for their work. Pastor Brenda and Pastor Jeff will work out of their homes and coffee shops. “You might think of these as ‘community office hours’,” Pastor Jeff said. He encouraged people to make sure they had the Pastors’ cell phone numbers and to watch the church’s Facebook page for announcements from him and Pastor Brenda to track where they are when. Pastoral counseling will need to take place in people’s homes.

There is work to be done to get ready for the move; see “Packing Parties Planned.” Pastor Brenda says that she remains confident that we will be in the new facility before Holy Week. Here’s to hoping she’s right!
