Niles marks Dia de los Muertos with altar walk

Niles Discovery Church will again participate in the Dia de los Muertos altar walk Friday, November 1 (5:00-9:00) and Saturday, November 2 (3:00-8:00).  Dia de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in Latin countries, a time to remember and celebrate those who have left us.  Similar celebrations are found in many other cultures around the world.

If you would like to make an altar to your loved ones please let a member Ministry of Evangelism and Outreach Team know.  Altars do not have to be filled with skeletons or Latin images.  An altar can be created by using mementos, pictures, favorite foods, etc. from the people you are remembering and honoring with your altar.  You may also bring a photo of your loved one to add to our community altar.

One of the altars from last year.

Last year we hosted a space for some of the altars to be exhibited and some members of our congregation created some altars of their own.  We had a good number of visitors come into the church to see the altars.  We provided fellowship to our guest by offering them Mexican hot chocolate and cookies.  It was a fun and insightful evening for all.

What caught people’s eyes last year was the diversity of the altars that were created.  Please join us for this fun family event.
